Maybe the positive reviews colored my expectations. (Or maybe it was my own depression) but I expected it to be - well - more funny. Instead it was like reading my best friend's diary. You know...the cute, rich friend. The one who thinks she can relate to you with her body issues (she's skinny with large breasts) and quirky family (2 parent household - both intellectual professionals - you know - perfect). You're working at Taco Bell while she attends Vassar, gets her dream job, marries the love of her life and has a baby.Spoiler alert - she's dumped by her first boyfriend and experiences...bad feelings. Yup. Sounds about right. Oh, and that time she turned down that job offer from Letterman? Tragic. (But don't worry, she got another one.) More whiny than funny, the book didn't make me laugh, it made me sad. If her life is a mess...Damn! Mine is a total freak show.Maybe that's the point? Afterall (Klein points out) if Nicole Kidman is miserable and alone after winning an Oscar and Jessi Klein is miserable and alone after shopping at Bergdorf's, wearing Manolos (albeit uncomfortable ones) and winning her Emmy...think about how the rest of us poor shlubs feel. (Maybe I should drown myself in a bathtub now.) The Carrie Bradshaws of the world should like this book. Me? Not so much.

It's hard for me to make time to read for pleasure, but the second I picked up "You'll Grow Out of It," I couldn't put it down. Jessi Klein's writing is painfully funny and relatable; she's the acerbic voice in your head, just more eloquent...and possibly more inebriated. 80% of the way through the book I found myself messaging my friends that they needed this for whatever milestone moment they were going through -- engagement in your 30s, near-30s breakup with first boyfriend, general self-loathing and deprecation. As my most millennial self, I finished the book wanting to follow Jessi on Instagram, bummed to find out that she's only on Twitter. This is a must read. Must. Must. Must.

The first 2/3 are quite cute and funny. BUT...as soon as the baby does arrive....and we read nothing of THAT experience...Ms. Klein seems to rush to finish. The baby is 5 months old, no troubles and her goal as a "PrinZess" is achieved. End of story.

I have bought (as opposed to borrowed) pretty much every book written by comedians and about comedians (I have Amy Schumer's book on the way as I type this) and I was excited to start reading this until I started reading it...all of the pre-publicity and descriptions of the book touted it as a "growing out of being an awkward tomboy" book and this book wasn't that at all! Especially considering several chapters were about Jessi winning an Emmy, trying to get pregnant, getting pregnant...and what was most disappointing to me was how she wrote about being upset about NOT being proposed to but then never did write about how she WAS proposed to. The chapters skipped around...she wrote about pumping breastmilk before she wrote about becoming pregnant and having her baby. I'm just bummed out.

I loved this book from beginning to end! I had seen it in my recommended reads a few times and always passed it by. I am so glad I didn't this team!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book (audiobook). Jessi Klein is smart, clever, and funny, and her work is thoughtful and touching. I've sometimes felt "on the outside" as a female--like I missed some chapters on how to be a girl/woman, or something--and Jessi speaks eloquently to this feeling and to many of the trappings and expectations of womanhood, from wearing thongs to natural childbirth. I hope she'l write more! And I recommend the Terry Gross interview with her--that's what piqued my interest.

People often write "I laughed out loud at this" and I'm always skeptical, but honest to goodness, I really DID laugh out loud a few times while reading this. Klein is funny and relatable and I was so disappointed when the book ended because I wanted to spend more time with her. Such a fun read.

I chanced upon this book, and loved it. Jessi Klein is a good writer and I was laughing out loud as I read this. I never laugh out loud! She is insightful and funny, and parts are quietly touching.
