About the Author
Benjamin Alire Sáenz was born in Las Cruces, New Mexico but currently lives and teaches in El Paso, Texas. Ben is a celebrated poet, novelist and writer of children’s books. His first novel for young adults, Sammy and Juliana in Hollywood (Cinco Puntos, 2004) was chosen by the American Library Association as a Top Ten Book for Young Adults. And his most recent novel, In Perfect Light (Harper-Rayo, 2005) debuted in August 2005 to great critical acclaim.

Nice poetry, but not my subject interest.
Another amazing book by mr. Saenz!

I fell in love with Saenz’s writing when I read Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe, and when I saw that he also wrote poetry I knew I had to check it out. I was not disappointed. This collection was so raw and real. He took personal issued and tied them to society in ways that felt so believable. I felt connected to Jaurez and the struggles. The struggle of being an adult male and self reflection. And his frequent call for empathy for things we would rather not see will live with me forever. I have many lines marked in this book that have inspired me or made me think. I know this will be a book I come back to to feel these things again and for inspiration about facing life. This is a definite five star read for me.
